Is Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5 safe?

Limited Evidence

Side effects, risks, and safety considerations based on available research.

Research status

Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5 has very limited human safety data. Most information comes from animal studies, in vitro research, or anecdotal reports. This means the true risk profile in humans is largely unknown.

Known concerns & side effects

  • evidence limited to manufacturer-sponsored studies — no independent clinical trials
  • under-eye puffiness has multiple causes (genetics, fluid retention, allergies, sleep) — one peptide cannot address all of them
  • effective concentration in commercial products rarely disclosed or likely far below the studied 4%
  • dark circles from pigmentation or vascular visibility are different mechanisms from edema — this peptide specifically targets edema and permeability

Use caution with

fragrance and essential oils in the periorbital area (general caution for eye area products)

Frequently asked questions

Can Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5 remove dark circles?

It depends on the cause. Dark circles from puffiness (bags casting a shadow) may improve as edema reduces. Dark circles from visible blood vessels under thin skin may improve marginally via capillary permeability reduction. Dark circles from pigmentation (melanin deposits) are a different mechanism entirely and are not addressed by this peptide. Most people have more than one contributing factor.
